hej!

edit: I ended up solving the fullscreen issue, but the app doesn't work with my tablet.

it interacts with the pen in a weird way where just clicks register, but not dragging.

Hy, are you using windows? (is it a drawing tablet?)

if it's a drawing tablet, you need to change the driver from Edit > Preferences > Drivers.

thanks, that was it!

it works with wintab and dummy, but not with winink.

Hi, the feature to import a tag from one project to another isn't working.(or I'm doing something wrong).

Today I discovered this feature exists, but when I tried to use it, it only imports the tag name and the number of layers, but not the content. All frames are empty.

I tried:

- Different projects

- Various resolutions

- Importing with and without generating the label

- Free and Steam versions.

Nothing works.

I use this app primarily for pixel art, and this feature would have saved me a lot of time, but now that I know it exists, it doesn't work. Please help.

Hello, thank for letting us know of the issue! This is indeed a bug in the latest version. We managed to fix this just now, and the fix will be available in the next stable version. If you'd like to use the current development version now with the fix, you can download a Nightly version temporarily, until the next stable is out: https://nightly.link/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama/workflows/dev-desktop-builds/m...

Apologies for the trouble caused.

Will there ever be a version for Android tablets? I really would like doing some pixel art on the go.

IT is but it's progress is kinda slow, as it isn't the main focus rn.

Pan and zoom gestures are available though if you run it on your tablet through godot.

Step 1: Download Godot 4 from playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.godotengine.editor.v4&hl=en)

Step 2: Get pixelorama's source code (a zip folder will get downloaded, you don't have to unzip it) https://github.com/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama/archive/refs/heads/master.zip

Step 3: Open Godot and Import pixelorama as shown in the images (by default the project will get created in Documents folder, so if you want, change that to some place else)

Step 4: After it finishes import go to Scene > Quit > Save and exit.

You can now, also delete the ZIP folder as well (that was downloaded in step 2).

Now reopen godot, select pixeloram and press run.

Wouldn't it be possible to build Pixelorama on Godot Windows and export it as an Android apk?

(+1)

I have built it on my own and it works fine. Not everything works without mouse, but it looks pretty promising :-)

Hello, i really like using pixelorama and just got the newest version but it suddenly doesnt seem to react to graphic tablet pen movement, idk if its just a problem on my side but do you happen to know any fixes to this?

Oh i just found the answer in the troubleshooting post, changed the driver and now it works>_<

actually,, clicking with my mouse on the tool doesnt seem to be working neither way

Hy, could you check if this issue still occurs in nightly builds 😁

https://nightly.link/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama/workflows/dev-desktop-builds/m...

hi so this is totally embarrassing but i made a typo,, i meant to say clicking with my pen doesnt seem to work altho it does work if i wanna edit tools but that also seems to glitch out sometimes like if i try to up the brush size by one it glitches and starts going up incredibly fast with no input. Sorry for bothering again

You may need to change the graphics driver in preferences.

https://www.oramainteractive.com/Pixelorama-Docs/troubleshooting#drawing-is-very...

Hi! I really like it! Thanks for the work!
Are you planning of making it available as an addon directly in Godot?

Hello, thank you for the comment! The short answer is that it probably will not happen in the near future. For a slightly longer answer, see our FAQ: https://www.oramainteractive.com/Pixelorama-Docs/faq#q-will-pixelorama-ever-beco...

The curved line tool is hard to use. It would be better if the curve was controlled from the center of the line like it is on aseprite.

(3 edits)

Hy, that was the original idea but we decided to make it similar to Krita's bezier tool.

BUT, there's a separate curve tool that is being worked on (as an extension) that will work similar to aseprite and will be available in a few days (i'll reply to this when it is released).

(1 edit)

This feature will now available in the next version as a separate mode in the curve tool.

This pixel art editor is underrated.

If there was only an official flatpak for pixelorama, so I don't need to manually update it each new awesome release.

Thank you! We do have an official flatpak that is maintained by us here: https://flathub.org/apps/com.orama_interactive.Pixelorama

Hi! Could you please make it have the 'verified' rather than the 'unverified' tag?

Hello, we want to but it's not that simple at the moment. https://github.com/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama/issues/1206#issuecomment-2762336...

I love it! The eraser doesn't erase but replaces pixels with an almost invisible pixel which is very annoying. Please fix this!

(2 edits)

Hy, the Eraser tool has an Opacity option which lets the user change the strength of the tool.

are you sure the opacity value is set to 255.0 (which fully erases pixels)

The opacity value ranges from 255.0, to 0.0 where no pixels are erased

Oh, it was set to 254. Thanks for helping!

No Problem 😁

How can you remove reference images ?

Hy, go to Windows > Panels and enable "Reference images"

a new panel will appear (most probably beside the color selector panel). go to the reference image's panel and select and delete the image

(1 edit)

Thanks Variable ! In the reference tab I don't see the button (to delete) (ver 1.1).

I'm going to guess picking the "none" image does it?

(2 edits)
Picking none disables selection of reference images on canvas otherwise user may accidentally click and move a reference image instead of drawing
(1 edit)

It's the red button on the bottom right (you'd have to scroll down a little

Thanks !

in the last version, opening options/parameters/settings crashes pixelorama

Hello, thanks for reporting. Are you referring to the Preferences window, the one found in the Edit menu?

Yeah, i mean Preferences(Im using Russian so i dont know how it called)

The bug appears in Linux x86_64 build, other builds i didnt try

hi, i dont get how i can use the 3D model import. there is (as far as i saw) nothing about that in the documentation. also what type of models can i render, .obj, .blend? thanks ahead!

Hy, pixelorama can only import .obj files at the moment. This video summarizes most of the features of 3d layers:

Thank you! Great project btw

(2 edits)

Greetings! I downloaded the ‘pixelorama-linux-x86_64.zip’ and ‘Pixelorama-Linux-32bit.tar.gz’, and they contain an executable file inside. I don’t think it’s supposed to be like that, is it?

(1 edit)

Hy, it's supposed to have:

  • One executable (Pixelorama.x86_32 or Pixelorama.x86_64)
  • One PCK file (Pixelorama.pck)
  • A pixelorama_data folder (containing brushes, patterns, etc...)

For Linux Pixelorama comes in portable form.

There's also an official Flatpak available as well:

https://flathub.org/apps/com.orama_interactive.Pixelorama

Oh, I see now. Thanks for replying!

I think the digital pad does not work with Pixelorama. I tried to use my VEIKK digital pad, but it did not work. This upsets me as an artist since I have no idea how to make good art with a mouse

(1 edit)

Hy, if you are using windows then changing the driver from pixelorama's preferences should work (https://www.oramainteractive.com/Pixelorama-Docs/troubleshooting#drawing-is-very-slow-when-using-a-drawing-tablet).

In case your tablet uses Android, then there was a user with a similar issue on discord. They managed to solve it by running it inside Godot (feel free to join the discord server to see the solution in detail 😁.)

(If the drawing tablet uses Android)

You can now, also delete the ZIP folder as well (that was downloaded in step 2)

Thank you; it works now. And the response time was very short.

Glad to help 😁

(+1)

i like this tool considering that it’s got the looks of paint.net and some aseprite functionality though i would find it pleasing if you guys made the rotate function more convenient

Thank you very much! We are working on gizmos that will let you rotate selections and we were planning to have it ready for v1.1, but they have been proven quite hard to get right, so this feature has been postponed for a future version.

Hi, I found something strange with this update. I can't use the buttons back and forward of the mouse, (the ones of the left side) for tools, the keys are assigned to the tool but they don't work.

I try:

Reset de preferences

Change mouse

re-assign the keys

nothing works.

Someone has this problem too?, I'm very used to had this keys assigned to pencil and fill tools and it's kinda uncomfortable to change it.

Hy 👋, this may be a bug, thanks for reporting 😁.

In the meantim, if you want, you can re-download the previous version of pixelorama from:

https://github.com/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama/releases/tag/v1.0.5

This is indeed a bug, we will investigate and figure out a solution. Thanks for reporting!

(+1)

Is there a way to activate a "Mobile UI" mode ? Since it run in the browser it would probably be the best pixalart tool on android if the UI has just bigger buttons

(+1)

Hy, currently it's mostly focused for PC but the interface can be scaled up in preferences for bigger buttons 😁

(+1)

Hello! At the moment Pixelorama is only meant for desktops and some tablets, its UI is not very mobile friendly. We are thinking of eventually introducing some kind of Simple Mode, similar to Clip Studio Paint, which would work better for touch screens. At the moment, your best guess would be to scale the interface up from the Preferences, as Variable mentioned.

Just tried out the latest nightly build and I'm blown away by all the new features!

Would you consider adding thumbnails for .pxo files in the Open File Dialog box, like other graphics softwares have for their native file formats? An easier way to import .gif files would also be very handy and appreciated!

Thanks for such a wonderful piece of software!

(1 edit)

Hy 👋,

It can kind of already do gif importing, you just need to first download ffmpeg from https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/ffmpeg-git-essentials.7z

Then type it's path (path to ffmpeg file) in pixelorama's preferences

Thanks for the info! I've tried this and it works, sort of. Sometimes it hangs the app. I just hope we can have a more direct, built-in way to import gifs.

And pxo thumbnails would be awesome to have!

Thank you for the feedback! At the moment we are using Godot's file dialogs, which do not allow us to add thumbnails for files. In the future, we could create a custom file dialog that supports this feature. You can also enable native file dialogs, if you prefer to use the file dialogs of your operating system, but there would be no thumbnails for .pxo files, unless file explorers add support for them.

(+1)

Thank you for creating such a powerful and user-friendly tool for pixel art creation.

Could you consider adding **customizable keyboard shortcuts** to toggle layer visibility?

Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, this is a very good idea. Do you have any default shortcut in mind?

Thank you for considering the suggestion!

For default shortcuts, I imagined something like:  - Numpad 8 → Toggle visibility

However, since workflows vary (e.g., some users lack a numpad), allowing full customization — like Pixelorama’s existing flexible keybinding system — would be ideal. Many art tools restrict shortcuts (e.g., CSP blocks arrow keys), so your approach is already a huge advantage!

Grateful for your work on this incredible tool.

Hello, I was wondering if you had any plans to make the palette squares resizeable? They show up a bit small on my laptop.

(1 edit) (+2)

Hy, It's already possible, place your mouse over the palette pannel and use Ctrl + scroll wheel up

This is also possible for timeline as well.

Thank You

(+2)
sleepy little cat made me do the itch purchase :)

I have not even glimpsed at the feature set yet.

(+2)

That is a very cute cat! Thank you so much for your support :)

I have this app on Steam and I love it! It's perfect and I can do what I want, but the only thing I can't do is save my projects (My OS is Linux Nobara).
I've been exporting the projects to png files but it'd be nice to save my projects.

Apart from that, great app!

Nevermind. I used the app here, curious if I could save a project. Then I launched the app on Steam and I can finally save and open projects! :3

(1 edit)

Hello, I opened Pixelorama today and it suddenly makes my mouse drop to the bottom of the screen. It only happens when focused on Pixelorama but not when there is a menu up such as when I try to quit and it asks me if I want to save. I've never had an issue with Pixelorama before and I've never seen this strange issue either.

Is there anything that comes to mind that might be causing it? It won't be the mouse itself because it works fine everywhere else.

Turns out it was the controller because Nvidia considered it a game.....

Hmm this is weird. Pixelorama has controller support and it is possible to move the mouse with one of the analog sticks, but the cursor shouldn't move by itself. We'll investigate to see if it's a bug on Pixelorama's end, and perhaps we could add some kind of setting for quickly disabling gamepad input.

(+1)

This is an incredible tool, and you all are incredible people for choosing it to be Free & Open-source! Thank you for your efforts!

Thank you for the kind words!

So i Just Dowlanded It and I love it beacuse it's pretty Good for begginer and it's not even that messy the interface so it's very good, compared to other software like kitra which is quite complicated. The problem is that I only managed to find many tutorials so it was a little problem :(. Does anyone know any useful tutorials for future users (or for me?)

Stunning!! Really this is going to be the gold standard in pixel art tools.. but currently crippled by not having a simple to use rotate transform tool. Also lacking a quick image flip tool for things like duplicating and animating limbs.

Thank you! Rotation gizmos for selections are currently planned (and perhaps we could make a rotation or a transform tool as well), but for now flipping and rotation can be accessed by the Effects menu.

This is absolutely amazing!

Thank you very much!

There’s an issue with this app. When I apply a gradient map filter to a layer, I can no longer use the color picker to select the original colors from my palette.

It seems that when the filter panel is open, a dark overlay appears behind it and making my color dirk. Is there any way to prevent this overlay or a solution to this problem?

Thanks!

never mind i found the solution..

(+3)

Hy 👋, could you share the solution for any future users that may encounter this issue?

For future users, to prevent the user interface from dimming when opening window dialogs, you can go to the Edit menu, Preferences, and under the Interface category, turn off "Dim interface on dialog popup".

(3 edits) (+1)

Thanks to you people and your hard work on this app. I used this for nearly all of the art (outside of some vector editing for readables as this is not a text editor of course) in my latest horror game and I gave you people a shoutout at the end. Much appreciated. If you want any assets to put in your splashes at the intro, don’t hesitate to ask. All of the screenshots on my splash page use Pixelorama.

Hy 👋,Thank you for the kind words ❤️.

For the splashes, pixelorama conducts a splash screen event whenever pixelorama enters release candidate (or beta) stage. Pixelorama's next splashes are chosen from creations made during this event.

In fact the event's in progress right now, it ends on March 12th so there's still plenty of time left.(you can get more information on the Discord server😁)

This looks great! Thank you very much, glad that you found Pixelorama useful! And, just as Variable said, you are welcome to join the splash screen event in our Discord server!

Awesome

Thank you!

Hi Orama Interactive! First let me just say that I love your program and I even bought it to further support you and Pixelorama is about 10,000 times better than Aseprite in every possible way. However with that said there are a few quality of life things that I want implemented like being to right-click when using any selection tool like the 'Magic Wand' to bring up a small window of options and allow us to deselect everything selected, rotate things immediately (and to allow us to flip it horizontally/vertically) or invert selection.I would also love to see a blur tool, burn tool and a gradient tool for ease of use. The last thing I would like updated because it is a bit finicky to get right and that is resizing the menus, when I correct one of them to be the size I want it changes everything and I don't like that at all.

Anyways, thank you for everything you do and I wish you guys the absolute best!

(4 edits) (+2)(-1)

Hy, regarding the deselect selection, it is possible for you to do it using the shortcut (Ctrl + D)

And you can also Invert Selection using (Ctrl + I)

No.

(+1)(-1)

Hello, thank you for the feedback! As Variable already said, it is already possible to quickly deselect everything, either by going to the Selection menu and clicking on Clear, or by pressing Control + D. Same thing with inverting the selection, either Selection > Invert, or Control + I. All of the shortcuts can be changed in the Preferences. We are working on the ability to rotate selections directly, but it still needs some time to make it work properly.

Can you clarify as to what do you mean by resizing the menus? Are you referring to window dialogs, panels, or something else?

So you are going to ignore people that draw with tablets? I'll tell you one thing I hate using shortcut commands for absolutely everything it's one of my biggest pet-peeves. Looks like I'm going back to Aseprite after all. It's a shame, a real shame.

(+1)

This tool is great. Thank you so much for making it!

Thank you for the kind words!

(+2)

Just donated, loving the tool, slowly but surely getting waaaaaaay better than Aseprite, thank you <3

(1 edit) (+2)

Forget my previous comment, this is already 1000000000000000 times better than Aseprite, after giving it a better, easy to come to that conclusion, some minor quality of life features would be great, but, this turned out to be mindblowing

Thank you, much appreciated! What quality of life features would you like to see?

(+1)

Color cycling and some way to limit the color picker to emulate certain graphics chips and console limitations could be cool, like the CPS1's 16 bits with RGB and a "brightness" channel, the amstrad CPC's 3 level-per-channel, or Amiga and Megadrive's capability for Extra-Half Brite mode, along with the more straightforward "X bits per channel" setting

(+1)

Interesting idea, we will keep it in mind, thanks for the suggestion! For now, your best bet would be working with palettes. The next stable version will also feature indexed mode, so the colors of projects that use that mode will be limited to the colors of the currently selected palette.

I was thinking less of the color palette in the modern sense and more as in the actual whole available array of colors available to a console or PCB. Like, there'd still be a way to make palettes, but the colors you can pick to make said palette would be limited, if one chooses to do so. "Color Gamut" could work as a term. And for consoles that have features like EHB or NES' "color filters", there should IMO be a way to toggle them so as to make accurate color picking easy (easier?), maybe some sort of "brush" to change colors to their equivalent in the EHB or color-filtered gamut? Glad to hear indexed mode is being worked on, though!

(+1)

Yeah I see. This feature is not planned at the moment, but it's definitely interesting and we're noting it for a future version.

alright, can't wait for it to be implemented eventually then!

(+3)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ amazing, sooo easy to learn and to achieve the result, so adviced

Thank you! :D

(+2)

Pixelorama is the most user-friendly (whether you're a newbie or a seasoned sprite/pixel art crafter) and feature packed app of it's kind that I've ever seen.  I was suggested to check you out in the Github issues section of another pixel art app that is no longer being developed, and I have to say, Pixelorama is far more than just a simply suitable alternative, it's a vastly superior experience in every regard.

Looking forward to seeing what kind of cool stuff I can create using this app over the coming weeks/months, and plan on tossing you guys a couple of bucks when I get paid later this week, you certainly deserve it!  Thanks for being such awesome developers and actively listening to all of the people in the comments and implementing suggested features with crazy quickness.  You rock!

Wow, thank you so much! We really appreciate all of the things you said, your support is a huge motivation for us to keep going. We do our best to listen to the needs of the community, so it is very re-assuring to hear that we're doing a good job at it, even though there are a lot of things that have been requested and have not been implemented yet. But rest assured that we are working on improving the software a lot, and the next stable version already will have quite a lot of new features!

This is pretty dang sick. Feels really fast and responsive program. Feels good to use.

Thanks for the kind words, we are happy that you like it!

(+1)

Been using this for a few years now, but I wish you would fix the exporting screen, if you click the browse button and accidentally hit outside the file browser window, you are basically unable to do anything and would have to open task manager to close out and hope what you made was recently backed up.

(+1)

Hy, thanks for reporting. This issue is caused by the file browser window going behind the Export window. There are a few possible workarounds to this bug.

- Disable single window mode from preferences (this will actually show separate windows and you'd be able to refocus the file dialog if it accidentally hides behind).

- as it's a popup so theoretically (i haven't checked) pressing Escape key should hopefully allow you to interact with UI again.

Thanks!

(1 edit) (+1)

Btw, this bug is fixed and should be available in the next version 😁

(File dialogs should always be on top of other dialogs)

Yooo thank you! you're the Goat btw man
